Sometimes, it is always a nice feeling to know that there exists a power beyond us, someone who will protect us from life’s harm and keep us warm in the darkest of times. Well, it is indeed a gratifying experience when we worship together and then see for ourselves the wonderful effects of it all. The popular saying: “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”, has never had more significant than in this context. The very feeling of belonging and being able to worship to the divine indeed takes us to a whole new level of spirituality. Yes, I do agree when some people say, you don’t solve life’s problems just by worshipping. Agreed, however praying for the strength to get through the toughest times seems perfectly sensible now doesn’t it? As a matter of fact, there are times when all of us are faced with various troubles; we naturally tend to worship together. It is one of the most exhilarating experiences, and there’s nothing that can quite match the wonder.
When we listen to the silence of all of us, that is indeed when we truly feel close to God and become stronger as individuals. There are so many events conducted by the local church bodies on a regular basis, to specifically spend quality time with our family and friends through His divine presence. This is also another way of creating peace among the community and therefore moving forward towards a better future. There are so many ways one can achieve inner peace, but probably the best way to do it would be to gather at a common place and talk about your gratitude to Him. There are several other benefits each of us can obtain from worshiping together, so believe in the power of ‘we’.
Every Sunday when we religiously trod to the Church, have you ever thought for a minute exactly as to why you’re doing this every Sunday? If you have always had the urge to question this whole process, then this post is just for you! There is this innate quality in each of us to question just about everything around us. Though there are some who easily tend to accept, there are others who don’t accept so easily; in this case going to the church regularly. First of all, when you get ready along with your family and troop into the car every Sunday morning, it sure does give a sense of belonging. Don’t think of it as a waste of your time, nothing you do is a waste of time unless you choose to. Listen carefully to the sermon, and try to relate it to a situation you might or may be going through at that point of time. Understand the meaning of what is being said; it will definitely help you arrive at solutions in an unexpected way.
The whole point of attending a church service is not only to get to know more about religion or life, another important aspect here is bringing people together. Whether it happens to be your very own family member whom you hardly get to spend time with during the week, or being able to catch up with your neighbors after a long time a church is a perfect place to be on a Sunday! Sometimes, the congregation may decide to enact a play from the bible or to organize some community activities together so that more people will get involved and contribute towards a harmonious existence among the community. So, the next time don’t let others beg you to go to church, instead surprise them by taking the initiative yourself!
For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.
It is indeed so beautifully conveyed in the gospel of Mathew that when two or more people gather together to pray, a DIVINE unification of their souls occurs, to let them experience the ONENESS with that which is the eternal source to ALL THAT LIFE IS and also which is LIFE itself, to ALL THAT IS.
This stands true for all the religious groups which guide their followers in their own ways, to devotedly worship and mirthfully sing praises of the glory of the one source to whom we all belong, from where we have emerged and where we all hope to return.
In this physical world, we live in a reality where time and space exits and we perhaps see ourselves as distinct entities, separated from each other. However, as we embark on a spiritual journey enhancing inner transformation soothing our souls letting it evolve and recognize its own potential and the purity that it holds, we encounter the fact that all souls are universally connected with the SOURCE and hence with each other. We are enlightened to the fact that we are all one and just for the moment of living, occupying this physical body that implies separation, for experiencing the knowing of the wisdom which lies within each one of us. That’s probably where we get caught up in the illusion of being aloof from the SACRED TOGETHERNESS. Yet, when prayers are offered together, everyone is invited to experience the magnificence and wonder of the divine light within us perpetuating LOVE and COMPASSION, FREEDOM and JOY all the time.
When clusters of people unite to offer their thanksgiving and praises to the Always-LOVING, ALL-KNOWING Almighty with deep, intense, unwavering Faith felt from every level of their beings, impossible and unimaginable miracles are said to have occurred. It is the collective consciousness of all the souls coming together at an uplifted level of awareness where the good of ALL is considered as the good of self, where the love of ALL is considered as the love of self, where all possible physical emotions that separate one’s self from others cease to exist, where self takes the responsibility for his/her actions and nevertheless, strives for the common good of all the beings in the community.
So, powerful is the joining of beings in the name of the creator that they seek to help, love, care, nourish, enlighten, respect and uplift each other to evolve together at an energy equivalent to that of the DIVINE and resonate within the indigenous and the mystical aspects of life that keeps them clinging together to each other in LOVE- the very nature of our existence.
Have you experienced calmness yet? There may be many ways to experience serenity, but the most sought after way of making yourself and your surroundings calmer is by worshiping together. Yes, at the present scenario with the world taking nasty twists and turns, it is essential that the people spend time in taking some space to sort out their problems. As the technology has developed in a way that even the idols people worship appear online. But, nothing can match a Sunday or a Saturday prayer in a Church with fellow human beings. There are umpteen numbers of churches that offer this community praying.
Church service is a formal way of an organized communal worship once or twice in a weekend. The Church service is mainly an assembly of Christians who are made familiar with what the Holy Bible has to say. This helps the fellow human being in restoring the faith in God. Also, it is known that the style of service varies with that of a religion. But the common goal of every religion is to believe in God and restore faith in human beings. Also, for those with disability to make it to the church, there are online services called “Cyber-churches” that provides virtual mass experience.
There is a separate group of people called Quakers who do not follow a formal routine as the church service, but the aim of these services is to allow the participants to worship just because they feel moved. Some of the churches are even equipped with multi-media elements to boost the’ worship experience’. Following the mass and a small vocal music by the official choir, these churches offer “fellowship” offers which will give them an opportunity to socialize with fellow people. The mere concept of church services started from the Bible where it says that the people should not be an observer alone.
Many people across the world listen to church services aired on television or broadcasted online, these people use such services available as a medium to worship or listen to the word of God. But the question is – Are these online church services or the church services aired on television acceptable? Well it is important to know and understand what God wants from us when he says remain connected to the church.
What needs to be considered is the reason why a person is using an online church service or a television aired service? Is it because of physical restrictions? Is the person bound by any kind of disability? Is it a job posting in a remote location that does not permit an individual to attend services in the church? There can be a number of legitimate reasons why a person may not be in a position to attend a church service in person. For example, a disabled person, or a person with impairment – like a physically handicapped/a paralyzed or a blind person, a person working with the defense forces – like army or navy personnel posted in extremely remote locations where there are no churches, a person working on board the ship, etc. In such cases church services aired online or broadcasted on television channels offer up as a means to worship and remain connected to the church by being exposed to the word of God even in circumstances where attending in person church services is not possible.
Then again there are those people who refrain from attending Sunday church services out of laziness, some others may find it a pain to drive down to the church in lousy weather or perhaps they do not want to deal with others in the church community and hence use these online or television aired church services. It is time we take a look into our lives and keep in mind that God judges us by looking into our hearts and the true motive behind what we do and what we refrain from doing.
We see that during church services of praise and worship children are most often not present along with the adults. Children are usually attending special services that are age appropriate aimed at gearing the children with religious music and messages with morals. What we fail to realize is that we miss out on a certain aspect when we do not worship together. We miss out on the unity.
Bring to mind the candlelight service which takes place on the eve of Christmas where the entire area is totally packed. When you look across the rows you notice all people young and old holding hands in delight while they sing out joyfully the Christmas carol ‘silent night, holy night’. There is a sense of oneness and unity prevailing in the place.
When we look around during a church service and see an entire family – parents with kids in toe standing and praising God, it is indeed heart touching and we seem to be filled with a sense of family bonding. It is really heart warming to see people of all age groups praising and worshiping in their own different way. The sight of toddlers dancing away to the music during the praise and worship, the old folks tirelessly sitting and praising, the unity in worship can actually fill our eyes with tears of joy.
When young children attend church services along with us adults they try to repeat the words said and grow up observing and imitating our behavior – joining hands, kneeling down etc. Infact several top artists of hits talk about how the faith and worship of their grandparents had left a strong impact in their early years -how they were taught what worship is all about, how they learnt about their faith and how they were lead by example. Hence worshiping together should be encouraged.
There is a very famous proverb which says ‘those who pray together, stay together’. Even today, whenever we go to church, the priest requests all families to worship together at least once per day either during the evenings or the morning hours whenever every member of the family is at home.
They say that we must not think about God only during the bad times. Out of the thousand petitions the church receives, 90% of these requested petitions are provided by people who want their work to be done. Like for example – get financially secured, have a child, get a great job, get the right bride or groom etc.
When these requests are fulfilled, most of them will never come back for Thanksgiving. It seems that now their request has been granted by their God, it is time that they go ahead with their next request. How will God help us when we never thank God for what he has given us. Being able to eat a decent 3 meals per day itself is one of the biggest gifts given to us by our Lord. And therefore it is very important that all family members pray together by first thanking their lord for giving us a great day today.
We all have a special relation with our God. Each of us has our own prayers and requests. But remember, God will help each one of us if we follow God’s path. If you commit a sin, remember to confess in order to seek Gods forgiveness.
Giving charity to the needy itself is one of the biggest blessing which God gives. It is said that 20% of an individual’s income must be given to a charity such as an orphanage home or a home for the aged. Nevertheless, it all depends upon the amount of income a person generates. Even if one is not able to give a decent contribution, giving alms to beggars which we find on the streets can be considered to be a great gesture.
Those of us brought up in Christian families have grown up attending church services right from our childhood. And then, there comes a time when we young adults try and reason out why we go to church. Well, we will find different answers from Christians all across the globe. There are many Christians who only go to church to show others or just feel lead by other family members of the weekly church service every Sunday without actually feeling any spiritual connection.
Well, I myself was in a similar situation as those led by family into the church and did not attend church services all through my hostel years. Everything seemed to go on smooth and I never felt the need of spiritualism in my life until one day when I was faced with a health issue. I was facing breathing and swallowing difficulty and visited an ENT, after an endoscopy he said all seems well except for enlarged adenoids which need to be operated and advised me to get a CT scan done.
At this point I browsed over the internet thinking it might be some kind of cancer. That was the time when I visited the church and prayed honestly for the first time for normal reports. And God heard my prayers. This incident in my life awakened the faith within me and I started attending church services on a regular basis. I made a real good confession after almost 10 years and attended a retreat.
After attending mass regularly, I realized I began to change and the positive impacts of attending the church services were that I suddenly became humble, sensitive to the poor around me whom I hardly ever had though about. An inner conscience within me now holds me back from telling lies, fighting over petty issues etc. I am able to forgive people who had offended me and against whom I had nurtured anger and hatred for years. I grumble and complain less. My life feels a lot lighter and I am a happier person now after I have made church services a part of my routine.
If anyone wants to appreciate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, it is necessary for that person to worship Him with all his or her heart. The truth is that we must not reject the congregation of each other. This is the more reason why we must attend church service. The Bible says “wherever two or three people gathered together to praise and worship the Lord, God is there to answer them according to their prayers”.
For the fact that people who attend church service are more than two and three there is the assurance that God will answer their prayers only if they seek Him diligently. This notwithstanding, many people have both good and bad basis for attending church service or following Christ. Anybody that is ready to follow Christ must be ready to pay a very high price, including attending church service even when it is not convenient.
The statement from the bible that says that the foxes of the earth have holes while the birds of the air have their own nests but for the son of man, there is no place to lay his head is enough to serve God wholeheartedly and turn those who are neither cold nor warm in their service to their maker away from their bad notion about church service.
If we attend church service regularly, we are obeying the instruction of Jesus Christ that says that we must not forsake the congregation of each other. Jesus frowned at those who offer excuses for not attending church service to worship and praise God due to one reason or another. There is no justification for not attending church service, refusing or delaying the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your lord and savior or “what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul”.
Some reasons that people give for not attending church service are that; they are too tired, busy, want to meet up with an urgent appointment, they couldn’t prepare the children ready on time, they slept off, they were watching an important program on the television or they were attending to their guests when the church service was in progress and many other flimsy excuses.
Your major motive of attending church service should be, to worship God, interact with your fellow brethren, offer your talents such as drumming, playing keyboards and singing as a choir or participate in any other church programs to develop you spiritually to the glory of God and to receive encouragement from other children of God.
As we gather all the time as a family to praise and pray to God and the sole owner of the whole universe, we worship together. As families that fellowships together regularly, your ability to love each other more will increase and at the same time, you will feel more secure in God’s love. The present-day disintegration of families will be opposed if they offered to worship together.
The most priceless norm a family must imbibe is to worship together. The act of worshiping together can be traced to the period when communities used to gather themselves together to give thanksgiving prayers unto God as well as to commemorate the Eucharist Sacrament. Believers at that time dedicated themselves to the apostles’ fellowship and teaching, praying and bread breaking far away in the community of Jerusalem.
Even though we were advised by Christ to pray without ceasing as individuals, the prayer of the family and God’s people that worship together is always special before God. On the other hand, it is essential to worship together as a family so that parents will catch their children young and train them in the way of the Lord, so that when they grow up, they will not depart from it.
Furthermore, when you worship together as a family, you are investing in building a family that is healthy as parents and this will definitely yield dividends sooner or later. Hence, when you are still alive as parents, endeavour to treasure your children as the Bible says, ‘train your child to give you rest’.
Also, bear in mind that children will always remember the good prayer sections they had together as families when they grow up because it is difficult for them to calculate the cumulative effect of the lots of worship services had together with Dad and Mom between the ages of 4 and 17.
Remember Psalm 127: 3-5 and I quote “Lo, children are an inheritage of the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate”.
This is an assurance from God to parents to worship together as one family for love and fear of God to abound in their midst.
There are a lot of benefits and positive effects associated with attending church service. Unfortunately, many Christians that don’t attend church service are missing out of these positive effects and benefits which are far beyond the religious fulfillment that people who always attend are benefiting from it. This piece will identify the positive effects and benefits of attending church service on regular basis.

Most religions have some form of worship. This may involve the singing of songs and prayer. This will often form an integral part of the typical service. It is often used to open the service and to get everyone in the mood. Some religions believe that this is a good way to get their deity’s attention.
This is often followed by some kind of sermon or talk. This is where excerpts are read form the religion’s relevant scripture and explained by a person that is qualified to do so through the attendance of a special school dedicated to the education of religious leaders.
There is also often a collection of offerings. These are intended for the upkeep of the church building and paying of any staff that the church may hire. The offering is usually made in the form of cash though some religions do accept other items as an offering.
